Pool Update from the Pool Committee

Dear Fellow Member,

It has been nice seeing so many members enjoying the pool this past week, and we are very excited to now be open 7 days a week for the remainder of the summer.  As in the last pool update, the first part of this message will list changes (in bold) to the existing rules and procedures.  The full list of rules is included at the end.

Kayaks:

  • This week, there will be a kayak attendant on the dock from 12-6 on Saturday and Sunday only.  If you need assistance at other times, please ask a staff member at the pool and we will gladly help you.

Pool Reservations:

  • Each week, reservations will be taken beginning at 2PM on Sunday and may be made only for the following week (Monday-Sunday).
  • For this week, pool reservations and cancellations may only be made by emailing pool@manhassetbayyc.org. A reservation is not confirmed until a confirmation email is received from Sheryl Idzik or Cathy Caamano. In future weeks, pool reservations will be made using the Manhasset Bay Yacht Club app.
  • In the event of weather conditions that warrant closure of the pool, automatic cancellation of reservations for the affected time slot(s) will be assumed, so members need not send a cancellation email.
  • Guests will now be allowed during the 5:00-8:00 time slot only.  Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied in the pool enclosure and kayak/paddleboard lagoon by a parent.
  • Each family is limited to two guests per day, and each guest may not visit the pool more than twice per month. The standard guest fee will be charged to the member's account.
  • Guests’ first and last names and phone numbers must be included in the pool reservation. Phone numbers will be used only in case there is a need for contact tracing; they will not be shared or used for marketing purposes.
  • Children of members may not bring guests without their member parent being present.

JULY 4th:

  • Due to continued COVID19 restrictions, our pool games will look different this year — but there are still some activities that we can enjoy!  We will have pool games once during each swim block. The games will begin at 11:00, 2:30, and 6:00 pm.

Early Bird Swim (weekdays only):

  • There is no longer a 9:00-10:00 swim time.
  • If you only need 30 minutes, please specify 7-7:30, 7:30-8, 8-8:30, or 8:30-9 so that we can try to accomodate the most swimmers.
  • If sharing of lanes is necessary, we ask that each swimmer start at a different end of the pool (based on current guidelines from USA Swimming).
  • Two lanes will continue to be available during the day for lap swimmers.

For your reference, the following is a restatement of the existing pool rules and procedures that were distributed last week:

For those that have not already done so, each family must sign a form (click here) acknowledging that they have read and will abide by the new COVID-19 precautions. Please print and sign the form, then bring it with you the first time you come to the pool. A limited number of copies will be available at the front desk.

Kayaks:

  • Reservations are not required but may be made by emailing kayaks@manhassetbayyc.org.  Absent a reservation, available on a first come, first served basis.
  • Two or more people may not share a kayak or paddleboard if they do not live together.
  • Kayakers and paddleboarders must bring their own lifejackets.

Pool Reservations:

  • The pool day is divided into three 3-hour time slots:  10:00-1:00, 1:30-4:30, and 5:00-8:00.
  • Each family is permitted to reserve only one time slot per day.
  • No family is allowed to make reservations for members of another family.
  • Each family may reserve only one 1:30-4:30 time slot on weekends (Friday-Sunday).
  • A waitlist will be kept once a time slot is filled. Members may choose whether to be put on the waitlist or opt for another time slot for that day.
  • Any no-show pool reservation that has not been canceled or modified with a minimum of 2 hours notice will result in a penalty fee of $25 per person being charged to the member’s account.
  • A second no-show will result in suspension of the member’s pool reservation privileges for the following week in addition to the penalty fee.
  • When possible, the pool will open from 7:00-8:00pm for families who would like to add another swim to their day. This will be on a first come, first served basis until capacity is reached.

Early Bird Swim:

  • For members ages 16+
  • Available on weekday mornings from 7:00-8:00 or 8:00-9:00.
  • Senior Swim for ages 60+ will be offered Saturday and Sunday from 7:30-9:30.

General pool rules and guidelines:

  •  Do not come to MBYC if you have symptoms of any illness, especially COVID-19 symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle aches, sore throat, or loss of taste and smell.
  • Do not congregate, or allow your children to congregate, in the locker rooms.
  • Do not rearrange the pool furniture. If you need a chair moved in order to accommodate a family with more than two adults, kindly ask a staff member for assistance.
  • All members must enter the pool through the main gate (nearest to the flagpole) and check in with the desk attendant there. Entry through the rear gate is prohibited except during senior swim hours.
  • The entrance line will form around the pool gate near the flagpole on the Bay side of the fence.  While waiting for entry, please be sure to maintain 6 ft between your family and the family in front of you.
  • Members must provide their own towels until further notice.
  • No masks should be worn while in the pool. However, masks should be worn when interacting with staff and other members.
  • No floats, noodles, balls, or toys are allowed in the pool. The only exceptions are small floats for babies. No sharing of goggles or kickboards.
  • Always monitor your children to ensure they follow social distancing guidelines at the pool. Children who cannot swim will need a parent in the pool with them.
  • Lifeguards are responsible for water safety only. Lifeguards who are actively lifeguarding are not expected to monitor the use of face coverings, or physical distancing of others.
  • Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied in the pool enclosure and kayak/paddleboard lagoon by a parent or other responsible adult.
  • Parents are responsible for their children at all times and may not leave children unattended (such as while parents make use of the dock bar or dining facilities).
  • Changing of clothes or diapers is not permitted on the pool deck.
  • Food, glass containers, and baby strollers are prohibited inside the pool gates.
  • Smoking (or the use of e-cigarettes) is prohibited inside the pool gates.
  • Alcoholic beverages purchased outside the club may not be consumed on club grounds.
  • Children under the age of 3 must wear swim diapers with a plastic diaper cover over it.  All boys under the age of 8 must wear snug-fitting jammer-style bathing suits.  This also applies to children participating in the Spinnaker Program.

Thank you for your continued acceptance of these temporary changes to our normal life at the club.  See you at the pool!
